Hedgerow Foraging

This experience is perfect for anyone wishing to learn about the abundant wild food that grows in our wild spaces, with the option of Coastal, Salt marsh & Woodland locations. During the course, you will be taught lots about our wild foods and their uses. You will learn how to safely and sustainibly harvest your own wild food and help increase your confidence in Hedgerow Foraging.

What to expect...

This 2-4 hour course will begin with your guide Dan, meeting you at a specially selected, pre-determined location. After the initial introductions are out of the way, you will be given an introduction to what the course will entail, then the real fun can begin! You will be exploring some of Wales' most beautiful locations, learning lots of useful information to help build your confidence with wild foods. Dan will be teaching you how to safely and sustainably forage and identify the wild "edibles & deadibles" their uses in food, medicine, crafts etc. 

Depending on what is in season and ready to pick, you will have the option to graze on your foraged goodies throughout the course, make a wild salad or take them home to follow a recipe, giving you a real taste for Hedgerow Foraging.

A typical Hedgerow Foraging Course will cover the following topics:

Wild Edible Plants - Wild Deadable Plants - Plant & Tree Identification  

Sustainable Foraging - Habitat Identification - The Law & Foraging

Wild Cooking (Depending upon season & location)

You will be provided with any necessary foraging equipment, but please read the required kit list below!


What you need!

  • Robust closed toe footwear with good tread, walking boots/shoes are perfect! Alternatively trainers will do.

NO wear Crocs, flip-flops or sandals please!

  • Weather appropriate clothing (remember we are in Wales)

  • Any medication you may require i.e Asthma pumps, Epi pens etc.

  • Something to drink (wild foods can have some strong flavours)


  •  A camera to capture the memories #blackrockpembs 

  • A notebook & pen if you want to record plant names

  • Spending money for a coffee or Black Rock 



Please note that a fair level of physical fitness will be required, as we can expect to cover a few miles during the course. For groups with mobility issues, please email for a tailor made course. Also, public facilities are not always available at all locations. 

The course is open to people of all ages (under 16's must have an adult present)
