"My wife and I had a fantastic day coastal foraging with Black Rock Outdoor Company. Dan, our guide, was flexible and communicative during the booking process. In the field he was friendly and knowledgeable. Ensuring our group sustainably foraged the raw ingredients, which he then prep for us over a fire on a stunning beach. I would highly recommend this experience for a day out-You will come away having learnt something and a delicious meal!"

A lovely day foraging in hedgerows and seashore
"Dan took us on a fascinating journey around the streets of Tenby where there was a surprising array of edible plants, before taking us to a nearby beach to discover a vast array of seaweed, sponges, prawns, cockles and so much more! Dan is so knowledgeable, and delivers just the right amount of information without overdoing it. We were all delighted by our discoveries, having a really enjoyable day capped off with a delicious cook-up of our foraged produce. Thoroughly recommend!"

"We had a really fantastic morning with Dan on Pendine beach doing the rockpool safari. Dan's knowledge was amazing and we all learnt so much. The kids were completely enthralled the entire time with all the little creatures, seaweed and rocks. There was also 10 adults who also really enjoyed it, so it is a good experience for all ages. Dan was also very accommodating with the start time which was really helpful. Would definitely recommend.!"

"Dan kindly did a tailor-made session at the end of September for us. We were amazed by his knowledge of local plants and shoreline fauna. We gathered enough plants to be able to enjoy a delicious salad, he was well-organised and brought some foraged dressings for us to sample as well. He tailored the level well to our level of knowledge, without patronising, and also stressed the importance of avoiding stripping the area of specialist shore plants.
I have already recommended this experience to others as a brilliant gift, for anyone coming to the Pembrokeshire/Carmarthenshire region"

Fantastic day out immersed in nature
"My partner and I had the BEST day! Dan took us foraging through coastlines, hedgerows, woodlands, rock pools and along the beach itself: we learnt so much about wildlife and plants alongside what to eat and what to not! We made a very tasty salad and cooked up the seafood we caught and it was delicious! Dan's knowledge is fantastic: he answered all our questions with such a depth of understanding and was a great and enthusiastic teacher - his passion really shines through the day. Everything was both interesting and fun and we would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in learning more about your natural environment, self-sufficiency and loves the outdoors!"

"We booked the rockpool Safari as something different to do with our two boys age 4 and 8. We all loved it and we would highly recommend it to anybody with children. Dan was very knowledgable and we got to to see things we normally can’t find ourselves in rockpools and it was the first time the boys held a starfish."

A very wet, but fantastic Rock Pool Safari
"Well we booked a Rock Pool Safari and although it tipped it down we would do it all again...even in the rain!. We took our 6 year old and 2 year old. Dan had excellent knowledge and was one step a head meeting us with nets, buckets and a fish tank so we could re-visit the bigger items. It was very personal rock pooling which meant we gained very specific one to one attention. We felt safe out with Dan among the rocks and learn so much. Dan was extremely attentive even to the needs our 2 year old and ensuring she was included and considering the rain Dan did a fab job. Will be booking something again next time we visit, maybe bushcraft!"

"We had a lovely afternoon Hedgerow Foraging with Dan. He was very friendly and extremely informative, would definitely recommend. We quite fancy bushcraft next time. What a great way to start our holiday including a fresh salad and some tasty (and anti anxiety) lemon balm tea. We even learnt a little poem to remember things by- "Sedges have edges, rushes are round and grasses are hollow right down to the ground ". Really great thing to do."

"Brilliant rock pool session with Dan form Black Rock, he chose a great location teeming with sea life for us to find and learn about. The session was pitched really well to suit all members of our group (three adults and a young teenager) so we were all able to learn a lot and really enjoyed exploring the rock pools! Excellent Guide and Coastal Foraging Experience at the most scenic beach!
"We came across Dan and his company via a facebook foraging group. He had advertised his Foraging courses and we instantly wanted to take part in the Coastal Foraging course. We met in Pembrokeshire on the coast at a beautiful and wild beach with a huge expanse of sand and rocks - the perfect place to find wild seafood. Dan was incredibly informative and shared his knowledge with us in an interesting and engaging way. From the get go, we were foraging plants and leaves in hedgerows, and learning about the differences between edibles and non edibles. Once on the beach, we headed for the rocks with our nets to find prawns and crab followed by the beach at low tide to pick shellfish such as cockles, clams and mussels. We picked everything he had promised and then had an amazing cook up with a wood fire and watched the sunset. The food was amazing and I would have expected to eat it in a restaurant, I would never have known it was foraged if I hadn't picked it myself! Excellent value for money. Highly recommend any adventure with Dan and Black Rock Outdoor Company."
